just got back from GSC. verdict: the movie was disappointing! :( i’m sorry, but i really did expect it to be more .. i don’t know. quirky, offbeat, absurd, mad? i’m almost 110% sure everyone has seen it by now so i won’t bother review-ing it. the best parts have got to be the scenes with the Red Queen. but Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter — madly disappointing as well :( visually, of course, Alice in Wonderland was stunning. but logic and the tried-and-tested heroin-to-the-rescue plot have never seemed more boring and predictable!

tim burton & johhny depp could have taken this movie to a much higher level — what a missed opportunity!

okay fine. maybe it wasn’t so bad, and i would have died missing this movie anyway but still. i don’t know! i had much higher expectations for the movie because the book was so brilliantly nuts.

okay i really have no time to blog right now but. just wanted to say, the movie was brilliant. it made me tear. please watch it. the ending is a bit screwed for me but as far as hindi films go, this is some great stuff right here. datuk khan was extremely convincing in his portrayal of a man diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome :( sad stuff, but mostly very touching.

btw, the movie’s in both Hindi and English, with subtitles of course. and no mushy hero-and-heroine-playing-catch-at-the-top-of-the-mountains-with-waterfall-wtf song scenes. i promise.

CHECK OUT THE ALL-STAR ENSEMBLE CAST! and the taylors were totally adorable :))) rotten tomatoes gave it a 17% out of 100%, wtf … but honestly. i thought it was a good movie. i feel all wistful now :( love.

Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince!

and my verdict: best Harry Potter film ever made, and there’s been six. what do you mean “there’s no action in the movie”? there’s Quidditch and Katie Bell being possessed and lots of snogging and Dumbledore dying and the Weasley house being burnt down! (though that wasn’t in the book.)

it’s pretty obvious i’m a fan of the book, so i could be a little biased, but. you know :)

Why You Should Watch The Movie:

1. the british accent is so effing sexy.
2. cormac mclaggen is so effing sexy.
3. draco malfoy is so effing sexy.
4. emma watson is sort of sexy.
5. snape delivered excellent one-liners, as usual. (snape: “not so fast, potter.” harry: “oh professor, i’ve got to get back to my date … ” snape: ” … who can surely survive your absence for a minute or two.”)
6. luna is funny.
7. bellatrix is creepy. was that a kiss i saw she planted at the back of malfoy’s head in the astronomy tower scene?!
8. stunning visual.
9. ron is funny.
10. i wish i was british.
11. i wish i was british.
12. this is actually the only harry potter movie i enjoyed watching instead of compulsive obsessively making comparisons to the book throughout the film.
13. i wish i was british.
14. voldemort as a child was creepy.
15. this movie will make you wish you were british.

and it was good. it wasn’t brilliant or thought-provoking, but it passed ‘entertaining’ for a sci-fi/thriller/action movie, anyways. i can’t remember the past movies and i couldn’t grasp the whole time-travel shite, but the sweet part is that you don’t actually have to be a hardcore fan to like it :)

i love this season.

i love the final five. i love it because all the annoying girls from the top twelve are out so i can actually stop cringing everytime i watch it now! and i was right when i said one of my favourites (Natasha, Ming, Juanita and Dawn) is going to win this competition.

god i love this girl :)

honestly, i think she’s great. i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again. i’ve liked her from the close auditions, even with the weird long ass hair. i like her even more now with that short cut. she’s got determination and drive. i know she doesn’t project her garang-ness into her pictures, but .. she still takes good shots. there’s room for improvement.

and yeah. i thought she was really brave about staying in the competition, despite her health complications. and somehow i can connect with her. she broke the no-handphone rule, but only because she wanted to patch things up with her boyf .. i think she’s been alright throughout the contest otherwise. she’s in it partly for herself, and partly to make her mom proud of her, for once. i can relate to that.

HAHAHA you know she looks so demure and petite and all, but honestly .. she’s the complete opposite during the phone conversations with her family.

anyways. i really like her too! it’s like, i don’t get it. she’s got a flat nose, like me. she’s got small eyes, like me. so why the hell am i not as pretty as she is??

i think it’s time she get over her braces issue. she’s got a great body, nice hair, beautiful face. she takes great pictures, and i can see that she’ll end up in the top 3.

(omg we share the same height and weight! except i think i’m at 41kgs now. … obviously we don’t have the same body vital stats. i’m flat. she’s not. screw this.)

and her dad sounds so cute haha :) he gets so intense talking about the competition and photos and blog comments i think ming doesn’t even get to say anything edgewise.

i think this girl is seriously misunderstood.

either that, or she’s a real two-face.

well. i love her body. she’s got legs that go on and on. i think she’s really pro at modeling. her photos always turn out consistently great, and she does a mean catwalk .. so there’s no reason she won’t make it to the top three. even if she doesn’t win this, i’m pretty sure she can snap up modelling jobs on her own anyways.

i think she’s been staying out of all the drama and catfights happening in the house, which is good. she seems really bubbly and chirpy all the time, so that’s good too. i don’t know where she gets her energy. her photos are alright to me. i don’t know. she’s got the height going on for her, but her photos are a little bland.

that said, i think she takes instructions really well, and she’s extremely focused. so. i don’t know. she’s not my favourite, but i think she’s got it going for her.

yes! i, Su Ann, have taken the liberty of compiling this list. it’s basically a bunch of snacks you’re bombarded with every single time chinese new year comes around. it also means i have been eating too much but eff you! don’t judge me.

#1. Cornflakes Cookies

actually, i don’t know its proper name. but it’s got cornflakes and it’s a type of cookie, hence cornflakes cookie! i think this is what suet li baked and blogged about recently. it’s my all time favourite CNY snack! it’s healthy and really sweet – at its center is one big juicy raisin.

#2. Pineapple Tarts

godsend. i swear no words can describe how much i love my pineapple tarts. the outer layer just crumbles in your mouth, and at its center is pineapple fillings. so simple, yet absolutely divine!

these are also pineapple tarts, though i prefer the other type. this one is a little too hard and there’s something not quite right about its fillings :S

#3. Fried Crabsticks

this is pretty addictive! it’s basically just normal crabsticks, but peeled and then fried. i know! but they taste really good, kind of salty and sweet. some people overfry them, making it look really dark and taste kinda bad. this one is good, though :) i finished two containers in 24 hours.

#5. Kuih Kapet

also known as ‘love letters’, because of the characters imprinted on its folds. normally they’re folded into quarters like these, but you can also find them rolled up or folded into squares.

the ingredients are flour, sugar, milk .. i don’t know what else. but i used to help my aunt make them at her place. you pour the batter into the little pans and the trick is to lift them up again before they get too hard and quickly fold them. all i remember is burnt fingers :( kuih kapet is fragile and crispy and taste a lot like .. milk to me.

this is not bad! good peanut cookies are normally baked till they’re golden brownish like the above, crumble in your mouth easily and smell very strongly of nuts. perfect for peanut butter lovers.

#7. Chinese Potato Chips

my mother REALLY likes these. they’re like the normal potato chips you get, but these taste somewhat different. more potato-ish. maybe it’s because they don’t add salt and everything else.

it’s easy to make these, too. but i think you need special chinese potatoes for these. i’ve seen people make it at pasar malams. one guy will be peeling them at the speed of light straight into the boiling oil, and the other person drains them up. that’s it! it’s so so to me, but i’ve noticed that the elders like it more than we do.

#8. Long Yuk

such a big duh. this is not halal either haha. so! this is barbequed meat. this meat in particular is pork. they’re fattening and juicy and downright delicious. great after you toast it up!

#9. Kuih Bangkit

i don’t like this one much. taste too much like flour, but to each his own. i don’t know how to make it and i don’t know its ingredients either, but they’re normally white. HAHA. and they crumble in your mouth easily and stick to the roof of your tongue : / yeah. i guess they’re okay. but i don’t eat them much. everyone else do, though.

they look a bit like indian murukus :) but they’re not. they’re sprinkled all over with sesame seeds, and they’re kinda light and crispy and tastes sweet. breaks easily too. this is pretty good!

anyway it was sort of a BBQ party, except none of us BBQ-ed anything. and the only BBQ-ed stuff were the lamb and hotdogs. haha yessh i know. but i still ended up stuffing myself anyway, sigh, why am i an obese pig :(

i left at about .. 11:30PM?

and then the boyf and i went to Waikiki :)

you know how everyone always talks about waikiki this waikiki that? well i expected it to be some really hip club with a dancefloor and good lighting and everything .. but it was actually a pub nestled away in some remote part of PJ, behind some country club house. and pretty small, too, i must say.

so, as far as pubs go, Waikiki is pretty cool :) they had a pool table, and a small stage set up for the band that night. also, it was open air :) i mean, you can like sit down and actually feel the breeze around you, since it’s upstairs and all. sound system not too bad. after awhile the place sort of grew on me :)

and that’s it :) now i need to shower and go out. i think i can get used to this life!
